Audience feedback

Overall the feedback was with a mixed opinion some people thought it was great others not so much. The audience feedback we received was ok but it showed that we need to make a few changes to our documentary to make it Our audience feedback suggests that we need to improve our documentary by elaborating on our points because in our documentary we said some good points but we never really emphasised on them. also our audience feedback suggests that in the future we need to pick better locations which are quiet because that way the audio will be heard more clearly. we need to be careful when using the camera because in the documentary the| camera went a bit bent. also the feedback suggests that we need to add transitions to help make our documentary flow.

in the near future we will act on some of these suggestions and improve our documentary to make it better and more professional. we will improve our camera angles, choice of locations and we will add transitions to make it flow.

Our Location Pictures

Risk assessment for our Documentary

Our video will be made in areas around the school because of this we need to be extra careful in what we do because we need to be careful because there are alot of people around and it is a public place . To avoid any accidents we need to walk around slowly and responsibly so we do not come in the way of people and cause problems and accidents. also we need to film at certain time so we can avoid having any accidents. we need to film at certain times because most of the time in the areas that we want to film in are very busy and packed full with students every where so we need to be careful and probably film in lesson time when there is no one around making it a nice and quiet without worrying about causing any accidents

Locations

The Locations that we have chosen to film our documentary are mrs thomes office. we filmed there because that is where mrs thomes is more likely to be. another location that we chose to film our documentary was outside the restaurant by the stair case. we chose to film there because it had a sofa which looked and it seemed to look like the perfect setting at the time. another location we chose to film our documentary was outside the cafe. we chose to film there because it looked like a good area to film making it look  ideal. also we filmed there because it was quiet.  Another location we used in our documentary was outside the gym, we filmed there because it had a good seating area and seemed the perfect place to film because it was quiet.

Planning

The people that we are going to interview in our documentary are: and we are going to interview these people because mrs thomes is our expert witness and gift, warda and Sabina are students n 16+so it seemed relevant to us to interview them.

  • Gift
  • Warda
  • Sabina
  • Mrs Thomes

Evaluation

1. Anthony and me worked well in our group we all had our jobs to do and we did them without arguing or complaining about it.  for example we did not argue about our documentary idea, we chose something we both agreed on and wanted to do and we made our documentary based upon that. also we did not have any problems because we did not fight and argue we just got on with the task of making our documentary.

2. The difficulties that we had making our documentary were that we could not come up with a good documentary idea because most of our ideas either weren't good enough to make the documentary or we did not have any witnesses to back our documentary up for example we wanted to the the london riots we could not do that because we needed a witness who was actually in the riots . We eventually came up with a good documentary idea with a bit of help from Mr Ayres

3. Our documentary uses forms of conventions of real media products because or documentary is based on a true story and it is factual which a lot of professional documentaries are. also we had interviews and we used a expert witness which most professional documentaries use.

4. From our audience feedback we have received over 100 views so far which is good because we  thought that we would get much less than that and we thought our documentary would not do as-well as it has . also we have recieved one like so far which shows that our audience likes our documentary and thinks that it is good.

5 We used adobe premier pro which we used to make and construct our documentary and put all of our clips together. we also used a video camera to film all of our documentary.

Issues of factual programming

Accuracy
When making a factual program you should always do your research properly because all of your statements in a factual program must be 100% true and if your statements or facts are wrong you could be putting someone’s life at risk for example when talking about medical conditions.

Balance
When making a factual program you should always have equal information when talking about politics or mass media because you have to talk about sides in these two examples so it must consist of equal amount of information from both sides. You should have balance of opinions because you could interview 2 people who are on the same side of the issue making your factual program biased you should have equal amount of opinions from each side.

Impartiality
When making a factual program you should not take a side you must have a neutral standing on things and do not be biased to one side. Present an equal amount of information or statements from both sides. Also it is vital that you do not take a side.

Objectivity
When making a factual program you should get your main point across and you should be open minded about the point that is being made about the subject that is being discussed. You should not be one sided to the subject that is being discussed you should take both viewpoints and be open minded about the subject.

Subjectivity
When making a factual program you should keep your personal views and feelings out of the issues because by doing so it can lead to a one sided view on the subject that is being discussed making your factual film biased.

Opinion:
When making a factual film you should give a balanced view so you should interview people or find statements that have a different viewpoint and opinion. You should not only interview the people who agree with each other you should interview or find statements that have different viewpoints.

Bias
This is when an argument is completely one sided and ignores everything that is shown by the other side so when you make a factual film you should include both sides of the argument and make sure you cover and have enough information from both sides making your factual program fair.

Representation
You should represent your factual program in a certain way , for example you should not stereotype people or group people by an ethnic group. You must be very careful when making your factual program because you do not want to represent things in a certain way making your intended audience upset.

Access
You need to have people’s permission because that way you have authorised access and also by having this you will not get sued because you have a right to be there and have the authority to be there.

Privacy Contract with the viewer
You must have permission to film a viewer otherwise without having permission you will be sued because that person will see themselves in TV and feel violated and they will sue you because you have not got there consent to film them.

Group activity with year 8's

Today we had to help year 8's grow and increase there knowledge about how a documentary should be made such as the planning that goes in to it and camera angles etc. this helped me as much as it helped them because it helped further my knowledge by talking about it and it made me realise that i do know what I'm talking about. also it helped me increase my confidence when talking to people. it also helped me because it helped make me realise that all documentaries must have a purpose. it also helped them because i gave them good ideas when it comes to planning because i told them to make timeline because  by making it will help you work out the length of your documentary and it will help you work out what you are going to be doing at each stage. i also told them to make a storyboard because it will help you work out a narrative for your documentary.

Planning about Our chosen documentary idea

Our chosen documentary idea is about some of the issues we in 16+ are having with the school we are going to concentrate on 2 key issues which are, when we come late to school and we have a free lesson we still end up having a late detention even though we have a free lesson. another issue with school we have is that we are forced to stay in school during lunch times not allowed to buy food from outside having to eat from the school cafe. We will interview students from 16+ to ask what they think about these and how they think they can be resolved

For our documentary we will interview students of 16+ about what they think about these issues and we will listen to there viewpoint about what they think and how they think these issues can be resolved. we will ask them questions about these issues to see what they think. we will ask people about what they want to be improved.

We will also interview an expert witness about why we are unable to go offsite at lunch time and why do we get a late detention even though we are free lesson 1 and 2. I think our expert witness will be Mrs tomes who is our principal, we will interview her because she caused these issues and we will ask her questions about why she caused these issues and we will ask her about why it benefits us to stay in school at lunch time and why do we get a late detention even though we are free lesson 1 and 2.

The people who we will ask our questions to are, the students in our media classroom and we will also ask our questions to general 16+ students in school. Also we will ask an expert witness who is going to be miss tomes because she's the main person who has caused these issues.

Our target audience for our documentary is going to be teenagers who are going through simular problems that we are going through with school.

The questions that we will ask students are:

How do you feel about getting a late detention even though you have a free period lesson 1?

How do you think this issue could be improved ?

How do you feel about being forced to stay onsite for lunch not being allowed to go outside to eat ?

How do you think this issue could be improved ?

The questions we will ask miss tomes are:

How do you think these problems could be resolved to make us in 16+ happy ?

Analysing 2 documentaries which are king of laughter and please and thanks

Please and thanks

The please and thanks documentary is about what people think in general about manners and how often people use them. The story is that how younger people do not say simple words such as sorry, please and thank you as much as the older people do and as much as they should do. the purpose of this documentary is too make people realise about how often they do not use manners. The target audience of this documentary is all people from every age group because the documentary talks about people in general rather than a particular age group. the mode of this documentary is that observatory documentary because the people that are interviewed are saying what they think  and they are observing peoples manners and they are saying what they genuinely feel about it. The way that this documentary is constructed is that it follows the codes and conventions of documentaries because it is factual, it uses different types of camera shots such as long shots and close ups and and it asks the people about what they think. King of laughter

The king of laughter documentary is about how people mainly old do not laugh anymore as much as they should. it talks about how laughter is good for you and makes you feel a lot happier rather than sitting around depressed being in a mood. this documentary mainly concentrates on a town called walsall because according to a latest poll walsall is the unhappiest town in britain and one man called Belachew Girma  who holds the world record for the longest laugh has come to change that. The target audience of this documentary is people of walsall in general but it mainly concentrates on old people. The purpose of the king of laughter is to make the people of walsall laugh because they are the unhappiest town in the UK. The mode of this documentary is that it is an interactive documentary because it interacts with a lot of people by making them laugh and talking to them. The way that this documentary is constructed is that it follows the codes and conventions of documentaries because it consists of lots of different camera shots such as establishing shot and medium close ups. this documentary is factual and it interacts with people by talking to them and making them laugh. My documentary idea

The idea i have about a documentary is perception in sport. i think i want to do this documentary because athletes especially in football are seen as role models when they are not because some have affairs, some give racist abuse and some fight on the pitch. i might do this documentary because footballers especially are seen as role models to young children who watch and admire them. i want to talk about how they affect children with there stupid antics such as fighting, taking drugs and being racist because children watch them do these things on TV and then repeat them at school, at home anywhere where there is a public enviroment for example when zidane head butted the referee in the world cup final which was televised all over the world. after the final was over children all over the world all over the world repeated this action in sunday league games setting a bad example. i think i want to concentrate mainly on racism in football because in the last couple of months racism has gone out of hand and senior players are saying racist comments which is a bad influence on young children who repeat the things that they see on TV.

analysing concrete circus

This documentary has a narrative side to it because it talks about underground sport and how it is now being recognised as a sport and as talent rather than being recognised as a misfit.. this documentary follows codes and conventions of documentaries because like many documentaries it is based on a true story and there are people being constantly interviewed.  There is a narrative side to this documentary because it tells the story of people who do this underground sport and it questions them on why they do it and how they came out about doing these sports.

The camera shots in this documentary vary because in the interviews the shots are close up and medium close up but when the athletes show there talent the camera shots used are medium close up, close up, extreme close up and long shot. Another code and convention in this documentary is that there s a narrator saying important points in between particular parts of the documentary. The narrator tells, explains and gives extra information about each sport that is happening. Also the the narrator gives extra information about the athlete that is doing each sport. The documentary is about 5 athletes making 45 tough films all of them showcasing there talent in there specified underground sport.

Expository Documentary

A documentary is a factual film made based on a true story such as a boy who is blind can still see, the documentary will be made following him around and showing how he lives his every day life and thorough research in the documentary will be made by questioning scientists about how he can still see. An example of a type of documentary is expository documentary which consists of the following:

1.  expository documentaries have distracting entertainment qualities of the fiction film

2.  expository documentary has commentary in the background

3.  Expository Documentary Addresses viewer directly, w/titles or voices

4.  it Advances argument about historical world

Codes and conventions of documentaries

The code and conventions of  this documentary is that it is a story which all documentaries have. also another code and convention is an interview so they are interviewing the man about how he sees his pregnancy whilst they play the flashbacks.

another code and convention in the documentary is that the story is based on something that is medical which most documentaries are about. another code and convention in this documentary is that it is a factual film because it is story and most documentaries are  based on a true story.

Another code and convention for documentaries is that the target audience is mainly aimed at families so they can watch them together. another code and convention is that if the documentary is about a medical condition or people who can do amazing things with a serious medical condition than research in depth is done on the condition.

Another code and convention in documentaries is that if the film is based on some sort of problem the solution to the problem is sometimes found. another  code and convention of documentaries are sometimes based on a sad or interesting story.

Another code and convention of documentaries is that sometimes they have a narrator telling the foundation of the story. they have a narrator introducing the documentary, the narrator also speaks at certain parts of the documentary explaining points that are said with detail.
